Harlem Shake

Remember when less than a year ago the Harlem Shake was such a big deal?  People would spend hours setting the stage to create a 30 second video.  And for several weeks, it seemed everyone from a local high school, to your local church to the Miami Heat was in on the craze.  Yet as I write this today, I can not even remember the last new one of these I have seen posted or created or even talked about.  But not that many months ago, it seemed you were not cutting edge or relevant or “cool” if you did not find a way to put this into your world.  Now, no one cares.  Just think about how common this cycle is.  I have to have it.  I need to date him or her.  I must own one.  I will spend hours to make this happen.  And then in 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days, 5 months or 5 years, it seems ridiculous that you chased that.  Life is too short and the stakes are too high to spend so much emotional and physical energy on things that will not last.

  1. I do not know what the Harlem sake was but I am guessing it was like shoulder length hair and elephant bell bottom jeans of my generation. I remember when I thought my life would be over with out either of these. Now that I am made to remember these I think how stupid I looked back then. Image what a few decades of reflection can help a person see. Now how do we get these glasses I am looking thru available for our children to see themselves with now instead of 40 years later.
