I am reading a book right now that quoted a prayer from Sir Francis Drake. The prayer was later referenced by a missionary named Jeanie Curryer in one of her prayer letters. The content of the prayer was this:
“Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves. When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little, when we arrive safely because we have sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us, Lord.”
I love that prayer. The God of the Bible is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. We need disturbed to live the kind of lives that engage the awesomeness of this kind of God. I am being challenged to see where I am playing it safe and dreaming too small. I hope this challenges you too.
