Worth Following

It seemed like everything I read or heard spoken about for a good portion of my day yesterday was about character. Not about being a character, but about having character. Many people can get a following based on their talents and abilities, but that does not make them worth following. Who you are when the choices are tough is what makes you who you really are and determines whether or not you are someone others should get behind.

I read this yesterday – “Leading with character is not about doing right to avoid consequences. Leaders worth following do the right thing because it is the right thing. Virtue is not a means to an end. It is the end.”

Powerful stuff to consider. Right and wrong are not determined by economic and organizational progress…they stand separate from both. It is when our public life and our private life match up that we keep our moral authority and we are worth following.
